This constitutional amendment protects parents as the primary decision-makers in their children’s education, upbringing, care, and control, while leaving child-protection laws unchanged.

This bill, championed by Rep. Kenneth Paschal (HD 73), proposes an amendment to the Alabama Constitution to preserve the fundamental liberty of parents for generations to come. If passed in the legislature and favorable voted on by the people, it would make Alabama the second state (after Texas in 2025) to add parental rights to those rights explicitly protected in its constitution.
